UK Management Accountant

Location: This role will be a hybrid model of home working and office-based working based at the Group's head office in Wimbledon.

Salary: Competitive

We are currently recruiting for a UK Management Accountant to join our UK Finance Department here at Domestic & General. Reporting to the UK Finance Manager, as UK Management Accountant you will be key member of the UK Finance team, covering management accounting and financial accounting. This is a fantastic opportunity for a high performing Management Accountant or Financial Accountant who is looking to further their career in a growing business.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Key member of the UK Finance team (covering management accounting and financial accounting), playing a key role in the team
  • Responsible for the effective management of the Group's management accounting for Domestic and General Services (DGS) including ownership of the month-end process and the integrity and accuracy of the balance sheet and supporting reconciliations.
  • Expected to challenge the status quo of processes and take a lead role in the continuous improvement of processes and internal controls within UK Finance
  • Completion of year-end accounting, financial statements and external audit process for DGS
  • Building strong relationships across the business, including with Underwriting, Business Partners, Client Management and Service teams in order to identify and understand the key drivers in the UK financial results
  • Support the UK Finance Manager and the Group Head of Finance in responding to technical accounting issues that impact UK Finance
  • Support the UK Finance team's role in the implementation of IFRS 17 and a new general ledger system
  • Building strong relationships with the external audit team to ensure audits are completed in accordance with tight deadlines
  • Support with other ad-hoc projects related to UK Finance within the business as required


Skills and experience required:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to work effectively with large volumes of data and multiple sources of data simultaneously
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Engaging and capable of delivering clear objectives
  • Confident, a self-starter, with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment
  • Able to demonstrate good attention to detail and good judgment showing logical decision making
  • Highly organised and efficient
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices to be able to make sound day to day accounting decisions and solve accounting issues and problems
  • Existing management accounting/financial accounting experience
  • Experience of running the month end and year end process
  • Strong technical accounting expertise including IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Strong understanding of robust processes and effective controls


Desirable

  • Working knowledge of corporation tax and VAT
  • Experience of preparing financial statements
  • Experience of Insurance accounting
  • Experience of working in regulated environment, including Solvency II
  • Experience of system implementation projects, including P2P, general ledger etc


Experience of the following finance systems would be beneficial but not essential; IBM Cognos (budgeting and forecasting), SMA (general ledger), Oracle (general ledger)
