Job Description

Sedex is one of the world's leading ethical trade service providers, improving sustainability and working conditions in global supply chains. If you're passionate about technology, interested in building world-class scalable solutions, and have always secretly hoped that your skillset might one day be put to use as an agent of genuinely positive real-world change, then Sedex might be the place for you.
About the role:
We are looking for a highly-skilled and forwards-thinking technical leader to join one of our agile product delivery pods, to help shape and guide the creation of green-fields platforms as we replace our legacy stack. This is a hands-on role where your time will be split between shepherding our technical approach and hands-on coding.
In the first 3 months you will:
  • Understand and settle into the team processes and cycles, and start forming ideas on how they can be improved
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the production environment setup, CI-CD pipe, and deployment approach
  • Understand the overall architectural landscape in which your systems live
  • Begin driving the solutions coming out of your team, and making positive contributions to the solutions of others via our architecture group
Ongoing responsibilities:

Team Culture:

  • Cultivate a high-performance culture that is based on the early delivery of value
  • Ensure a safe environment where differing views are expressed honestly and frankly without fear of recrimination
  • Foster a culture of personal development and individual accountability, holding people to account and challenging them to constantly push their boundaries

Delivery:

  • Ensuring solutions are designed to facilitate the delivery of value at the earliest possible opportunity
  • Ensuring that the technical expectations of deliveries are met with high quality solutions that account for non-functional requirements
  • Accountability for the technical approach and architectures that are implemented by the team
Your skills and experience:

You should have:

  • 5+ years commercial experience working in software engineering teams, using Agile methodologies and test-driven/data-driven approaches
  • A deep understanding of modern architectural patterns and designs
  • A keen focus on creating customer value
  • A results-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A strong sense of accountability

You should be:

  • Naturally collaborative and approachable
  • Positive in the face of change, and an advocate for continuous evolution of the team and its capabilities
  • Comfortable in holding difficult conversations, and skilled in approaching them in a forthright yet sensitive and constructive manner
  • The sort of person who naturally steps forwards to take responsibility
