Job Description

This is the chance for an ambitious Design Engineer to join a respected and long-established market leading business, supplying products and services to the rail industry (rail industry experience isn't essential). They are part of a large group, who are established worldwide.

Design Engineer Hours and Benefits

  • Monday to Friday, 8:15am - 4pm (only 36.25 hours per week)
  • 33 days holiday, including bank holidays

The Design Engineer Role

Whilst principally mechanical in nature, the company products incorporate a wide range of technologies including integrated electrical and electronic components.

They are looking for a technically competent, highly motivated Design Engineer, with a broad skillset to join their professional team of engineers and technicians.

The successful candidate will become a core member of the team with the opportunity to make a real impact. You will have the opportunity to see designs through to manufacture, from initial concept through prototyping and testing to full release.

Candidate Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering Qualification (Degree or HND or similar)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a related design capacity
  • 2D and 3D CAD Software Experience (Solidworks preferred but not essential)
  • Experience designing products with integrated electronic and electrical sub systems would be advantageous
  • Ability to perform Engineering Calculations
  • Work well independently and as a team member
  • Railway background (desirable but not essential)

Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • The Design Engineer will support the Engineering & Innovation Manager in the development of products and services.
  • Support the product development process through the creation of design documents including CAD drawings, bills of materials, engineering calculations, test reports etc.
  • Getting involved in the assembly and testing of new designs both in-house and on-site.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to assess performance, cost, and manufacturing feasibility of potential new designs.
  • Support the Technical Sales Manager in promoting and selling of products. Assist with installation of monitoring systems in the field.
  • The Design Engineer will provide advice and instruction to external stakeholders on the installation, operation and maintenance of products and systems.
  • Ensure continued compliance with company quality, safety and environmental policies.
